2014 KNHS CHIO Cup

Junior Rider Rosalie Bos and Young Rider Anne Meulendijks were the winners at the fourth and final qualification leg of the 2014 CHIO Cup show circuit held at equestrian center Groenendaal in Bunschoten, The Netherlands, on 18 May 2014. A large field of 30 juniors and a smaller group of 20 young riders travelled to Bunschoten to contest the last qualifier before the finals at the CDIO Rotterdam next month.

Only one junior cracked the 70% barrier and that was winner Rosalie Bos on the Dutch warmblood mare Bolita (by Uptown). The pair posted a score of 72.43% and stayed well ahead of the comptition. Marjan Hooge and the German bred Fulltime (by Fidermark) were second with 68.96% and Lotte Meulendijks and the Dutch gelding Tom Tom Go (by Cabochon) were third with 68.74%.

"There was a hedge besides the dressage ring and behind it there were a few ponies running around restlessly," judge Hanneke Gerritsen explained. "I'm sure that a lot of horses got tense because of that, which influenced the results. This is why there weren't many high scores. Bos rode a great test and her horse was harmonious throughout.  She was up in the bridle and moved in a way I like to see."

The duel between young riders Anne Meulendijks and Stephanie Kooijman continued in Bunschoten with the former topping the leader board. Astride her Dutch gelding Avanti (by United), Meulendijks scored the winning mark of 74.61% while Kooijman and her 10-year old Winston (by OO Seven) were the runners-up with 73.99%. Jeanine Nieuwenhuis and Baldacci (by Havidoff) landed third place with 73.77%.

Grand Prix rider and up and coming judge Joyce Heuitink assessed the young riders. "It find it really enjoyable when you see four combinations who are really each other's match," Heuitink commented. "They performed at a top level. Meulendijks and Avanti showed much expression in trot, not only in front but also from behind. This horse constantly moves actively from behind. Kooijman and Winston showed much routine but lost a few points in the finishing touches. The horse should have been more clearer in the rhythm in the collected walk in between the turns on the haunches and in the extended walk he should be more active from behind."
