The grey Oldenburg licensed stallion Heslegards Rubin passed away at age 20 on Tuesday 15 April 2014 after a period of illness during the winter. The stallion has been in Gustaf Johansson's care for the past eight years.

Born in 1994 in Germany, Heslegards Rubin was bred by Ursula Nashashibi and owned by AJ Produkter AB. He was by Rubinstein x Inschallah AA x Mersuch. Presented by Detlev Sau, he was licensed for the Danish warmblood society in 1998, after completing a performance test in Vilhelmsborg in 1997. He sold to Heslegård Stud owned by Lisbeth & Niels Johnsen and served the Danish mares over a period of 10 years.

In 1998 he won the Danish young horse championship as a 4-year old, scoring 48,5 points with an 8 for walk, 10 for trot and canter, 9.5 for rideability and 10 for potential.

The stallion made his Grand Prix debut at age 8 with Anne Grethe Törnblad. He then competed at the 2004 Danish Championships under Joachim Thomsen. With Swedish Patrik Kittel, Rubin won the 2005 Nordic Baltic Championships. In 2006 Johansson took over the ride and the stallion moved to Sweden.

Rubin initially stood at stud in Denmark. As of 2007 he mainly covered mares in Sweden. His most famous offspring includes Heslegards Rolex, which competed for Denmark at the 2009 World Young Horse Championships in Verden and at the 7-year old Championships in Falsterbo before selling as Grand Prix prospect to Bernadette Pujals.

"This winter he got lymphangitis in one hind leg which made it difficult for him to move, but he has been doing well for some months and moved around on the farm as he pleased. However, he must have lost his balance when wanting to get up, because we found him with a fractured fetlock and could not get him back on his feet. We then had to make the hard decision of having him put to sleep," said Gustaf Johansson.
