Emile Faurie's 7-year old rising Prix St Georges horse Duke Ellington has passed away due to acute laminitis. The horse's quickly deteriorating condition was sudden and unexpected.

"The vets battled hard to save him, but sadly I had to take the decision to put him to sleep as he was suffering," Duke Ellington's owner Tricia Vaughan told Eurodressage.

The chestnut Duke Ellington was a British Hanoverian gelding by Dimaggio x Rotspon, bred by Caroline Evans and Dr E. Blass. "He was a beautiful and talented horse which I had owned since he was a foal," Vaughan explained.

Pippa Fisher introduced Duke Ellington to competition as a 4-year old and competed him at the 2011 British National Championships to place 5th in the 4-year old division. In 2013 Emile Faurie campaigned the horse at the World Young Horse Championships in Verden, Germany, where they landed a 16th place in the consolation finals for 6-year olds.

"Emile and I had such hopes and dreams for him. We are both devastated at his loss and privileged to have had him, albeit for too little time," Vaughan concluded.
