Canadian Grand Prix rider Jon Costin passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday 7 May 2013 at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Canada, at age 44.

Jon was husband to Alycia and father to four children Amalia, Erica, Luke and Simon.

Born on 1 March 1969 in Burlington, Ontario, Jon was a professional dressage rider working from a dressage training centre located west of Toronto. He was trained by Neil and Cindy Ishoy and is a several time Canadian World Cup League finalist and a USDF gold medalist. He also competed the youngster Rebel Rockstar at the 2001 World Young Horse Championships in Verden, Germany.

Costin's career highlights were aboard the Hanoverian bred Wholio, a 1996 born and 17.1 hh standing Warkant x Lanthan offspring. He came into the spotlight with the dark bay gelding in 2004 and competed him through 2007. The duo was short listed for the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen. The Grand Prix gelding, owned by Vivan Russo-Picheny, was later competed by Elizabeth Niemi.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Freelton on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
