Following two controversial paternity tests after the 2012 Danish warmblood stallion licensing, the Danish Warmblood board has decided to make the DNA testing mandatory for all stallions participating starting with the pre-selection for the 2013 Licensing.

Last year two stallions that were licensed with the Danish warmblood society turned out to have different sires than registered on paper following the mandatory DNA testing. Crowd favourite Sezuan was not sired by Romanov but by Zack and Believe Me was not sired by Belissimo M but by Furst Grandios.

Based on these two cases, the Danish Warmblood Board decided to introduce the mandatory DNA check already during the pre-selection process of the stallions as "misplacement" of semen straws as well as the filing of the wrong sire during the registration process seem to happen more often than expected.

For the 2013 Licensing pre-selection the Danish Agricultural Centre for the Horse will be present on the spot to identify the horses and take hair samples of all participating stallions for DNA testing.

The pre-selection for the 2013 Danish warmblood licensing will take place on 4 - 7 January 2013 in Vilhelmsborg and Vallensbaek as well as at Hoel Farm in Norway.
