Horse Sport Ireland Coaching Conference Draws Large Attendance

The Horse Sport Ireland National Coaching Conference drew a capacity attendance of over 400 people at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin and the Kill International Equestrian Centre on Sunday 4 November 2012.

The conference started at the Citywest hotel in Dublin and then moved to the Kill International Equestrian Centre after lunch. The Conference had invited  speakers such as GB team Veterinarian John Killingbeck, Joe O'Connor (Fitness Coach and Consultant), British Equestrian Federation consultant farrier Haydn Price, and US Olympian, team trainer and President of the United States Equestrian Federation, David O'Connor.

The conference at Citywest commenced with Vet John Killingbeck presenting a session on management of the competition horse for optimum performance and  Joe O’Connor discused the importance of appropriate fitness and strength for the rider.

Price discussed the effect of biomechanics and shoeing techniques for performance horses, whereas O'Connor led the practical demonstrations at Kill with Irish Olympic Riders Camilla Speirs and Joseph Murphy. Other riders featured in the demo's were medal winning Young Riders Katie Nolan and Shane Power and junior riders Lucca Stubington and Harold Megahey.

The Conference also saw the first six Irish Level Three Dressage Coaches receive their certificates: Heike Holstein, Rosemary Gaffney, Denis
Flannelly, Maureen Dwyer, Anna Merveldt and Gisela Holstein.
