The red roan Donauruf (by Herzruf x Exorbitant xx x Habicht) was named the champion of the 2012 Trakehner Stallion Licensing in Neumunster, Germany, on Sunday 21 October 2012. The strikingly coloured horse also became the price highlight of the auction.

Donauruf is bred by Veronika von Schöning, who is also the breeder of sire Herzruf (which sired Ulla Salzgeber's Grand Prix horse Herzruf's Erbe). The red roan is out of Dolce Vita III and was the stunner of the licensing. "I believe he is my breeding master piece," said Von Schoning.

The champion sold for 300,000 euro to Gestut Wiesenhof, which recently announced that it will close its stallion station and will only be focusing on training and competition. At the moment it is unsure whether Donauruf will stand at stud.

The 2012 Trakenhner Stallion Licensing featured high quality stallions at the top but the collection was not as convincing overall.

Guardian (by Imperio x Consul) became the reserve licensing champion. This colt impressed in trot and was one of the crowds' favourite. He is bred by Hubertus Poll and sold at auction for 150,000 euro.

The third ranked stallion in the premium ring was Whizzkid (by Syriano x Uckermarker). This colt is bred by Johannes Mangold who sold the stallion as a foal to current owners Hans-Peter Kleinfeld and Joop van Uytert.

The fourth premium stallion was a Connery x Lagunas xx offspring.  The best show jumping Trakehner was Avatar (by Ajbek). Seven more stallions were licensed and they are sired by Iskander, Le Rouge, Polarion, Prince Patmos und Redecker.

At the auction following the licensing, ten licensed stallions were sold at an average price of a staggering 81,000 euro ! San Silviano (by Polarion x Biotop) became the third best selling auction horse and sold for 130,000 euro. Most expensive non-licensed stallion was Königssee (by Interconti x Tambour) which sold for 27,000 euro. The average price for a non-licensed stallion was only 12,000 euro.

At the auction for Trakehner riding horses on Saturday 20 October 2012, the 4-year old Trakehner riding horse champon mare Donauflamme (by Rheinklang x Maizauber) sold for 105,000 euro to a Hamburg dressage enthusiast. The most expensive foal sold at this auction was the filly Fleur (by Kentucky x Grafenstolz) which sold for 12,000 euro.
