Following the 2012 German Dressage Championships in Balve, Germany, the German Equestrian Federation was able to announce the team that will represent Germany at the 2012 CDIO Aachen, the final German Olympic selection trial. The team of four riders selected for Aachen will most likely be the German Olympic team unless another rider proves himself better in the Aachen CDI Tour.

Klaus Röser, dressage committee chair of the German Olympic Equestrian Committee (DOKR), announced that the top four ranked riders in Balve will make the Aachen team. They are:

  • Helen Langehanenberg - Damon Hill (by Donnerhall x Rubinstein)
  • Matthias Rath - Totilas (by Gribaldi x Glendale)
  • Kristina Sprehe - Desperados (by De Niro x Wolkenstein II)
  • Anabel Balkenhol - Dablino (by De Niro x Wanderbusch II)

Isabell Werth on El Santo will be amongst the other German Olympic short listed riders which will compete in the CDI Tour. In the past Hubertus Schmidt, for instance, was able to ride himself on the 2004 German Olympic Team via the CDI tour.
