The Danish warmblood stallion licensing champion ERA Dancing Hit has been euthanized after an unsuccessful recovery from an operation. The gorgeous stallion broke his leg in a lunging accident a week ago.

Owned by Jørgen Steen Jensen of Stud Farm Højagergaard, Dancing Hit fractured his leg in three places in a freak accident on the lunge line. The horse bucked and upon landing broke his leg. He was transported to Dr. Jahn's equine clinic in Bargteheide, Germany, where he was operated on. The horse had to recover by hanging in a sling for an extended period.

The owners and veterinarians were quite optimistic after the surgery and Dancing Hit was doing quite well in his harness. He could walk round in the box and even lie down.

On Monday morning the horse was unable to stand on the leg and got a fever. X-rays were taken and all screws and bolts were in perfect place. The decision was made to anaesthetize him again and have a closer look. During this second operation it turned out that there was no blood streaming to the fractured parts. This caused an infection even though the stallion was receiving the heaviest dose of penicillin. Because the bone was too badly infection it was decided in the best interest of the horse to have him put down.

ERA Dancing Hit (by Don Diego x Sandro Hit) was hailed as one of the most promising young licensed stallions in Denmark. He won the licensing as well as the performance test.

Owner Jensen is devastated by the loss but has tried everything to save the horse. "It has really been comforting throughout the process that so many people have done their all," Jørgen Steen Jensen told Ridehesten.
