Legendary Hanoverian foundation sire Weltmeyer passed away at age 27 following a severe colic attack this morning 27 June 2011. The World Cup I x Absatz offspring, who stamped his personal breeding line, was euthanized.

"Because of his age we decided not to have him operated. His conditioned worsened rapidly this morning so that we were forced to have him put down," said stable manager Axel Brockmann.

Bred by Hermann Meyer in Allwörden, Germany, Weltmeyer was the licensing champion and performance test winner. As of 1988 he became owned by the Landgestut in Celle and moved to the stallion station in Ankum where he served mares his entire life. He won the Bundeschampionate as a 4-year old under Hans-Peter Klaus.

Weltmeyer was known for passing on expression and movement quality. He was a widely used stallion at the start and sired 4610 registered foals. 433 mares became State Premium Mares and 86 of his sons were licensed. He sired an endless list of super successful dressage horses (Warum Nicht, Weltall, Wie Weltmeyer, Welcome) and auction horses. He became even more renowned as an exceptional dam sire and his name can be found in the dam line of incountable licensed stallions, breed show winners and sport horses.

Weltmeyer was proclaimed Stallion of the Year in 1998.
