The Dutch Equal Rights Committee has ruled in favour of judge Karin Retera who filed an official complaint against the KWPN breed society. Retera has been a KWPN inspector for many years and felt discriminated when she was rejected for a position on the KWPN Stallion Licensing Committee.

The Committee Equal Rights agreed that the KWPN lacks clear procedures for the appointment of stallion selectors which contributed to this discrimination. The KWPN failed to provide sufficient evidence that they do provide equal rights for women in such procedures.

KWPN chair Henk Visser stated on the record that no interviews are being carried out with stallion selector candidates but only with those who
will be appointed. The Committee recommended the KWPN society to
communicate more with candidates in an early stage of the selection
procedure.

The Committee Equal Rights, which has no legal jurisdiction but which can make powerful recommendations, advised the KWPN society to set up a transparant and systematic, controllable, selection procedure which prevents equal rights from being breached.

Karin Retera is pleased with the verdict. "I didn't file this case for myself, but for future incidents. That is why I find it important that this verdict has been judged."
