Pia Fortmuller of DeWinton, AB, has been named the Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for April. Fortmuller, 26, attended the CDI 3* Stadl Paura in Stadl Paura, AUT, held April 21–24, 2011. In the Grand Prix for Freestyle class, Fortmuller and her horse Orion placed third in a starting field of 24 entries with a score of 69.766%. In the Grand Prix Freestyle, the pair earned 72.850%, placing third again.
“Orion was a super star at Stadl Paura, and I am so thankful to be his rider,” said Fortmuller about her chestnut 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Jazz. “Leslie Reid did such a fabulous job training Orion, and Heike Kemmer has really helped me to fine tune my riding and polish up all of Orion's talent. Slowly, all the pieces are starting to come together and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has helped me get here; success is never achieved alone. I would like to let everyone at home know I really appreciate all the support.”

The Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month is a recognition program that celebrates the achievements of Canadian dressage riders who represent Canada in national and international competition in the FEI Pony, Children, Junior, Young Rider, Advanced, Grand Prix and Young Horse classes.
