The Flyinge State Stud and national equestrian centre will be the first institution in Sweden to have an official "Bereiter" training programme for riders to become certified as professionals. By the autumn of 2011 the programme should be launched at Flyinge

Kungsgård - one of the country's three national facilities.

Official teachers in the programme will be Peter Eriksson and Susanne Gielen, head riders at Flyinge, who have a long standing track record in show jumping and dressage.

"This course has been existent for a long time abroad but as equestrianism has become so big in Sweden now, it's only natural that we launch it here as well. There is a great need for horse trainers in Sweden. Breeders have difficulties finding a rider who can train their horses up the levels, "said Peter Eriksson, who has participated in five Olympics and four World Championships.

The programme takes one year poly-technical study and the goal is to ride at Prix St Georges level, jumping 1.40m or ride at two-star eventing level.

"This Bereiter programme is for those who are highly motivated and passionate about putting the horse in the center of their lives. As a rider one must have a high degree of perseverance and a lot of patience to train horses up to a high level, "said Ann-Catrin Carlsson, who is the programme director of education.
