International Veterinary Sport Horse Congress at 2011 CDI-W Amsterdam

On 21-22 January 2011 the 7th edition of the international Veterinary Sport Horse Congress will be held at the 2011 CDI-W/CSI-W Jumping Amsterdam at the RAI building in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

In an unique atmosphere, equine veterinarians with interest in sport horses are able to attend a 2-day veterinary conference with international top speakers as well as relax watching the fabulous shows and contests during the 52th edition of Jumping Amsterdam.

Speakers at the conference include David Frisbie (US), Jan Greve (NL), Richard Markell (US), Christiana Ober (CA), Richard Piercy (UK), and Jan-Hein Swagemakers (DE).

On the first day, Friday 21 January 2011, regenerative medicine will be discussed. Key factors in understanding the basis of stem cell therapy
including the best ways and locations to collect stem cells. One of the keynote speakers is David Frisbie from Colorado State University and working at the "Orthopaedic Research Center". Since years a lot of the new treatment methods have been researched and developed in Colorado. In the afternoon prognoses of joint and tendon injuries as well as soft tissue injuries for a future sports career will be the topic of discussion.

On the second day, Saturday 22 January 2011, Richard Piercy will talk on differentiating ataxia from lameness, ancillary diagnostic testing for Wobbler syndrome and prognosis, and practical investigation and management of sport horses with myopathies. The variety of topics in the Saturday program contain neurology, muscle problems and the afternoon sessions are entirely dedicated to the pre-purchase exam. Dutch team vet Jan Greve's presentation is called: "Is today's prepurchase examination going lame on itself?' It will be followed by a panel discussion which has been titled: "Prepurchase exam: How to communicate and be sure not EVERYONE is mad at you!"
