Madeleinde Winter-Schulze's Oldenburg gelding Apache OLD was officially retired from competition at the national indoor show in Hanover, Germany. The 17-year old bay gelding by Alabaster x Grundstein is owned by Madeleine Winter-Schulze

and suffered from lyme disease a year ago. This short circuited his competition career.

At the 2010 German Dressage Championships, Madeleine Winter Schulze said in an interview that Apache OLD is favourite dressage horses. Apache started to compete at international Grand Prix rider level in 2001. At the end of his show career, Apache was ridden by Werth's head rider Matthias Bouten.

Apache OLD was retired in a special ceremony at the Hanover show. “Hanover means a lot to Apache, Madeleine Winter Schulze and me. That’s why it was important to us to say goodbye here at Madeleine’s “home tournament” to be able to present him as fresh as possible,” said Werth.
