Trakehner Breeding News

Young Trakehner colts up for licensing were inspected four times by the licensing committee and Lars Gehrmann at the 48th International Trakehner Stallion Market in Neumünster.

Free jumping was first on the programme for the young licensing candidates on the second day of the event.

The committee agreed: Also this year the two-and-a-half year olds had improved in jumping over the poles. Committee member Hans-Werner Paul has been the approval commissioner for twenty years and was more than happy with the performances: “The free jumping was very relaxed and harmonic. Many horses shone in scope, but also with their excellent technique. I was also thrilled by the willingness to perform, the quick reactions and the independent behaviour of the Trakehners.”

The day continued for the stallions with the presentation in the triangle in the afternoon. The auction mares and foals and the riding horses were presented in the Holsten Hall to complete the day's programme.

The planned governmental ban of branding horses is a hot topic of conversation this weekend at the Trakehner Stallion Market, just like it was at the Hanoverian approvals this past weekend. After a meeting in Verden, the Holsteiner Association, the Hanoverian Association and the Trakehner Association have agreed on working together to fight for sticking to the tradition of branding.

Besides research into the legal complications, signatures are being collected. It’s an action which started in Verden and will be continued at the Trakehner and Holsteiner approvals. In an open letter to Ilse Aigner, minister for nutrition, farming and consumer protection, the signees are asking the minister to take the arguments of the breeders into consideration before a final decision is made.

The signature form can be downloaded on the Trakehner Association homepage for those who are unable to be present at the Trakehner Stallion Market in Neumünster.

The Trakehner Stallion Market live: www.clipmyhorse.de will be broadcasting the Trakehner Stallion Market live over the internet on Saturday and Sunday.
