On 12 September 2010 an exorbitant collection of high quality mares will be competing for the breeder medals at the 2010 Danish Warmblood Elite Mare Show in Vilhelmsborg, Denmark.
The Dansk Varmblod PAVO Elite Show will commence Friday afternoon and continue until Sunday afternoon. From Friday to Saturday the Elite Show will be hosting the national finals for 40 foal and 38 two-year-old fillies, whilst Saturday night will be gala party and Elite Foal Auction with a celebration and guest performance by world champion UNO Donna Unique and Andreas Helgstrand.
However, the main focus of the PAVO Elite Show at Vilhelmsborg is the newly graded Dansk Varmblod mares.
New collection of medal mares
Originally the Dansk Varmblod Elite Show was all about the newly graded mares, primarily three-year-olds, and they are still the main focus of the show. All newly graded mares qualified for the Elite Show have passed a performance test with a very good result. They will be presented to the judges either in free-jumping in the indoor arena or under rider at the dressage arena at the historical courtyard of Vilhelmsborg.
These mares can be awarded breeder medals of bronze, silver or gold. Only a handful of excellent mares will be selected for the final, or gold ring, on Sunday afternoon where they most likely will receive a gold medal and compete for the titles of dressage champion mare and jumping champion mare of the year.
43 newly graded mares are competing at the Dansk Varmblod PAVO Elite Show 2010. 26 of them are dressage mares and 17 are jumping mares. There are 38 three-year-olds, 2 four-year-olds and 3 five-year-olds.
The dominating sires are Blue Hors Romanov with five daughters while Blue Hors Don Schufro and Blue Hors Hotline each have three daughters selected for the Elite Show. Among the jumping mares some sires are represented by two daughters, which counts for Carson Ask, Chico’s Boy and Lambrusco Ask.
In order for the mares to achieve a breeder medal they must meet very high standards of type and conformation, and not least strong performance skills. This year several mares have obtained excellent results at the performance test and therefore make it a very exciting final on Sunday.
Danish gold medal mares in international sport
The Dansk Varmblod judges have a strong record of awarding the gold medals to young mares which later on will have immense success in breeding or sport. In recent years several of the gold medal mares have been given the chance to prove themselves as performance horses, and they have achieved tremendous success.
Two years ago Dansk Varmblod won their first medal at the WBFSH/FEI world championships for young horses in Verden. Gold medal mare Polka Hit Nexen became runner-up world champion and placed herself as the best six-year-old dressage mare in the world. At the age of eight she has now made her successful debut in Grand Prix.
Her success at the world championships in Verden was last repeated by gold medal mare UNO Donna Unique. With her runner-up champion title she ranked as the best five-year-old dressage mare in the world. In August 2010 UNO Donna Unique moved up one step for gold and claimed the world champion title for six-year-olds.
The two gold medal mares Grevens Sa’Va’ and Tørveslettens Stamina represented Dansk Varmblod in the category of five-year-olds. They placed 5th and 6th and thereby ranked as the two best five-year-old dressage mares in the world.
As the icing on the cake the gold medal mare Larina-Høm and her rider Minna Telde will be representing Sweden at the WEG 2010 in Kentucky.
Such outstanding successes add extra glamour and sparkle to the gold ring on Sunday afternoon and attract international attention to the Dansk Varmblod PAVO Elite Show.
