In countries such as India, Pakistan and Egypt millions of horses and mules work in unbearable conditions until they drop dead. The owners of these animals are the poorest of the poor. Lack of money, ignorance and century old medicinal traditions are the foundation of the suffering of these animals.

Malnutrition, dehydration and hyperthermia are the most common conditions.

Brooke Hospital for Animals (founded by Mrs Dorothy Brooke in 1934) engages itself to improve structurally the living conditions of these Third World work horses and mules by using own its veterinary clinics, mobile teams, as well as domestic vets.

The Brooke Hospital veterinarians and caretakers are natives from those countries. Yearly 500,000 horses and mules are treated there for free. Brooke Hospital for Animals is able to operate via donations from Great Britain and The Netherlands. The Foundation Brooke Hospital for Animals was established in The Netherlands in 1994.

On Saturday night 22 May 2010 a Dressage Gala Evening is hosted at the Achterhoekse Paardendagen in Zelhem, The Netherlands, where a special performance by 7-year old child singing star Charlotte will take place. Famous composer Jeroen Dirksen (Thomas Berge and Andre Hazes) composed the song "Moeder Aarde" especially for Brooke Hospital. It will be sung by Charlotte and recorded and sold on CD. TV producer Eric Dikeb has arranged a video clip for it. This CD single will be released by ZN Music Label and the nett profit is donated to Brooke Hospital. Of course a hit list ranking in the top 100 would be a dream.

The Brooke board of directors has heard a short fragment of the single. Their reaction was very promising: "We are all moved by Charlotte's beautiful fragile voice. Wonderful!"

The Achterhoekse Paardendagen have become a horse event fixed in the tradition of the Achterhoek area. Even members of the royal family have ridden at this event and this year the organization expects a thousand entries and ten thousand visitors. The special Dressage Gala Evening will feature a Kur to Music competition intertwined with various shows and a master class in which top actor and singer Antonie Kamerling will participate.
