Renowned Danish veterinarian and dressage expert Hans-Christian Matthiesen has been named chair of the Dressage Selection Committee of the Danish Equestrian Federation. Matthiesen will be responsible for conserving the focus on the welfare of the horse, selection of officials and sponsor marketing.

For many years Matthiesen was part of the Danish selection committee but now he's taking up the position of chair, which became vacant with the departure of Pernille Bigaard last year. Matthiesen is an international dressage judge, the team captain of the Danish junior and young riders, team veterinarian and vet at the Hørsholm Hestepraksis.

"The selection committee works intensively at strengthening the Danish dressage sport," Matthiesen commented. "The welfare of the horse is a pivotal point in our work as we are trying to develop a welfare codex concerning training methods for the education of officials. We also have to improve the economy relating to dressage by working more on sponsor agreements."

Jens-Erik Majlund, the sport director of the Danish Equestrian Federation, says the dressage sport is in good hands. "Matthiesen has much in store for the sport as he has produced much work over the years. He knows everything."
