The French dressage community is shocked by the sudden death of Grand Prix rider Sylvia Corellou, who died in car accident yesterday evening February 23, 2010. Corellou went out to do errands in Alliers, France, when she was hit by another car.
A Citroen C3, driven by a 57-year old man, hit Corellou's BMW frontally. Corellou died instantly, even though paramedics tried to resuscitate her.
The 51-year old Corellou lived in Cerilly, France. She was member of the French dressage team from 1991 till 1996 and from 1999 till 2000. She was very active in competing young dressage horses at the French and World Championships. She was long listed for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
"Our community is devastated," a close friend of Corellou told Eurodressage. "Sylvie was such a nice person, humble, talented, loved on the tour."
Corellou's Facebook page is being flooded with messages from grieving friends. Corellou's funeral will be on Saturday morning 27 February 2010 at 10 AM in the local church of her home village.
