2008 Swedish Young Horse Championships

My Princess, Hohenstaufen II, Wladimir OA, and Yantuge have become the 2008 Swedish Young Horse Champions at the 2008 Swedish Breeding and Young Horse Championships, which took place last week at the Flyinge State Stud in Flyinge, Sweden.

The 3-year old Swedish young horse championship consisted of a riding horse class in which the gaits and conformation of the horse were judged. The Swedish bred My Princess (by His Highness x Nactus) took highest honours under Evelina Johannesson. The highly refined chestnut mare is bred and owned by Anita Rostner. Head of the jury, Danish O-judge Leif Tornblad, praised My Princess for her good conformation, basic gaits and solid training. Johannesson presented the mare outstandingly in the young hors format. The Swedish branded stallion Maserati (by Metall x Tip Top), bred by Carina Bengtsson and owned by SEA Konsult, became reserve champion under Olof Axelsson.

Minna Telde on Hohenstaufen II The licensed Hanoverian stallion Hohenstaufen II (by Hohenstein x Langata Express xx) won the 4-year old championship. The black stallion, bred by Hans Günter Berner and ridden by Minna Telde, was the 3-year old champion last year and prolonged his title. Hohenstaufen's elder brother, the grey gelding Hohenstaufen I, became the 2007 European Young Rider champion under Christin Schütte and sold to Belgium afterwards. The Dutch bred Zircoon Spring Flower (by Painted Black x Armstrong) finished in second place under Jennie Larsson.

Pernilla Andre on Wladimir O.A. In the 5-year old dressage horse championship class, the Dutch warmblood stallion Wladimir O.A., which is owned by Birgitta Kjellin and Pernilla Andre, made a power move to win the Swedish Championship. Under Pernilla André Hokfelt, the dark bay Flemmingh x Florestan I offspring won all three rounds with a distinct lead to the reserve champion. Hokfelt and Wladimir totalled 84.622 points. At the Championship, the news became publish that Pernilla Andre is due to give birth to her first baby in April 2009.

Malin Rinné and the lovely Swedish warmblood licensed stallion Scharmeur (by Schwadroneur x Napoleon) became the reserve champions. They finished second in the first two rounds and were third in the finals. Their overall of 83.511 set them far apart from the third placed horse Sorent (by Saigon x Vivaldi) under Ebba von Essen. Scharmeur did win the 2008 Breeders' Trophy for being the best Swedish bred horse in the 5-year old division.

Ebba von Essen on Yantuge The 6-year old Swedish warmblood Yantuge, bred by Anette Guldbrandsen and owned by Anna-Maria Krawe, won the 6-year old Swedish Young Horse Championship as well as the Breeders' Trophy. Under Ebba von Essen, the dark bay Yantuge (by Blue Hors Hertug x Master) distinctly won all three rounds and was the most consistently performing horse in its division. With a total of 84.422 points, Yantuge stayed miles ahead of reserve champion Beckham (by Bernstein x Koncerz xx) who finished on 78.022 points under Maj Christine Ehnberg.
