2008 Global Dressage Forum

Two years ago Hubertus Schmidt, German top rider and trainer, gave a brilliant clinic during the Global Dressage Forum 2006. On the request of many trainers, Mr. Schmidt is invited again for this years Forum, taking place in Hooge Mierde on October 27 – 28th .

Hubertus Schmidt will bring three horses, two young horses and his Grand Prix horse Franziskus (Westfalian gelding, Fidermark I x Potsdam), which he rode at the CHIO in Aachen 2008. The other horses will be ridden by young pupils, who will get an open training session from Mr. Schmidt.

The subject of this clinic will be the use and effects of bending, flexing and stretching a horse. Bending is the laterally arced position in which the horse’s body appears to form a uniform curve from poll to tail. Attributes of bending include lateral flexion at the poll, stretching of the outer side of the body, lowering of the inner hip, and adduction of the inner hind and outer fore legs. Examples of faulty bend are: bending only in the neck, only at the base of the neck, or bent toward the wrong direction. The importance of the correct execution of bending in the training process will be explained in practice during this clinic.
