The first weekend of September, the 2008 Austrian Dressage Championships took place in Auhof-Fernitz, Austria. The Grand Champions of the weekend were Victoria Max-Theurer, recapturing the Grand Prix title for the sixth year in a row, small tour rider Stephanie Dearing, young rider Julia-Vanessa Valentin-Gruber, junior rider Timna Zach and pony rider Jennifer Doppler.
They became the national champions in their divisions.
Favourite for the Grand Prix title, the 22-year old Victoria Max-Theurer, fulfilled all expectations and reclaimed the trophy. Aboard the Oldenburg gelding Salieri (by Sandro Hit x Dakota II) he won both rounds, the Grand Prix and Kur to Music, with 70% scores. Salieri was purchased by the Sissy Max Theurer at the 2002 Oldenburg Fall Elite Auction and trained to Grand Prix level in their barn, Castle Achleiten in Rohr, Austria. The silver medal went to Peter Gmoser on his Oldenburg stallion Cointreau (by Canaster x Figaro), the bronze to Hannes Mayr on his own bred Austrian warmblood mare Ellis (by Grunstein II x Benjamin).
Due to a late withdrawal of one judge, the Austrian Championships only had four judges working. The judging committee and a representative of the riders agreed on the scene that four judges would suffice, otherwise the show would have been cancelled.
Stephanie Dearing and the 12-year old Holsteiner bred Conquistador Cielo C (by Calgary won the Austrian small tour championship. Conquistador Cielo C is bred and owned by Casillia Kft from Budapest, Hungary. Dearing won the Prix St Georges and finished second in the Intermediaire I with him. Former young rider Franziska Miedler got silver, Konstantin Erjawetz earned the bronze.
In the youth riders divisions, young rider Julia-Vanessa Valentin-Gruber grabbed the title aboard her 12-year old Rhinelander gelding Landslide (by Lanciano x Artwig). Seasoned junior rider Timna Zach was unbeatable on her Swiss bred Vincidore (by D-Day x Granit). In the pony classes, Jennifer Doppler reigned on her 9-year Welsh bred Heidewinde's Wesley (by Wester Aikema's Nando out of Heidewinde's Vitara).
