Oldenburg Breeding News

At the 2006 International Stallion Show in Zwolle, The Netherlands, Warkantos represented his sire Warkant, the 2002 Hanoverian Stallion of Year.

The dark bay gelding is one of seven Warkant sons that are currently competing at international Grand Prix level.

Eurodressage posed the question which other sire was able to match this incredible achievement of producing so many top quality dressage horses. Anne-Lot Paymans, score manager of Dressage Direct.com, was kind enough to send us a list of six sires who have more than seven offspring competing at international Grand Prix level. The absolute record holder is Donnerhall (by Donnerwetter x Markus), who has fifteen get in the show ring. Donnerhall himself won team gold at the 1998 World Equestrian Games and placed individually fourth.

The other breeding stallions with successful Grand Prix offspring are -- not surprisingly -- the big foundation sires of Holland and Germany. These are Lauries Crusador xx (6), Ferro (7), Florestan (7), Rubinstein (8), Weltmeyer (9). Five of these sires are standing at stud in Germany, which has the largest warmblood sport horse breeding market in the world.
