240,000 euro for Dark Angelo at Vechta Spring Auction

The bidder's duel for Dark Angelo only ended when the price reached 240,000 Euro. This Donnerschwee x Sion x Figaro son bred by Werner Martens, Wardenburg, changed owners at the 62nd Elite Auction at the Oldenburg Horse Center in Vechta, Germany. Dark Angelo sold to a dressage training stables in Switzerland.

The famous dressage rider and trainer, Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer, purchased a Dormello son called Doll (dam by Falkland, breeder: Horst Röwer, Syke) for 60,000 euro. The double Olympic Game winner, Martin Schaudt and a partner, bought a De Niro son called Defilant (dam by Figaro, breeder: Helmut Kleen, Petersfehn) for 41,000 euro.

The licensed show jumping stallion, Doc Martens (by De Niro-Enterprise, breeder: Alfons Klinker, Molbergen) was sold for 55,000 Euro to new customers from the US. The Canadian stallion owner, David Burke, who keeps the Oldenburg stallion Havard at his station, purchased another stallion called Sarastro (by Sandro Hit-Castro, breeder: Ferdinand Utesch jun., Fedderwarden).

At a knock-down price of 36,000 Euro, a Florencio colt called Fackeltanz (dam by Feinbrand, breeder: Karl Peters, Butjadingen), sold to Austria, was the most expensive foal. A Sandro Hit filly called Zauberprinzessin (dam by Kostolany/T., breeder: Karl Rumpke, Wagenfeld), who brought 26,000 Euro, will be reared in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The 20 foals auctioned achieved total sales of 197,000 Euro (average price 9,850 Euro). Eleven of the foals were sold to customers from abroad, including new customers from Saudi Arabia and Italy. "The increased presence of the Oldenburg Verband has already paid off. We set up an exhibition stand at the Al Fares trade fair in Dubai the end of last year and now we have welcomed the first group of customers from Saudi Arabia", said Wilhelm Weerda, President of the Oldenburg Verband.

The Dutch Olympic jumping rider, Jan Tops, purchased the Weser-Ems-riding pony stallion Charming Boy (by Courage-Hasko, breeder: Klaus Meyer, Meppen) for the sensational price of 47,000 Euro. The other Weser-Ems riding pony, a gelding called Calypso (by Constantin-Weingau, breeder: August Ellers, Emstek), trained up to Grand Prix in dressage, was worth 19,000 Euro to a customer from Lower Saxony.

The total sales of the 36 riding horses came to 970,500 Euro (average price 26,958 Euro) and 15 of these were sold abroad. For the first time, two horses were sold to customers from Finland: the State Premium mare Waldblüte (by Royal Dance-Pik Bube I, breeder: Freddy Bley, Fischerhude) and Roter Planet (by Rhodes Scholar-Rouletto, breeder: Heiner Böckmann, Visbek).

Auctioneer, Uwe Heckmann, who was extremely satisfied with the numerous groups of customers who came for the 62nd Elite Auction, summed it up by saying, "We supply the best training stables with the very best youngsters for big time sport".
