2004 Bundeschampionate - Qualifiers

The very first 2004 Bundeschampionate Qualifier of the season was held in Bremen, Germany, at a show organized by the St-Georg-Bremen Verein.

The winners of the weekend were Andreas Homuth, Francoise Cantamessa and Dr. Ulf Möller.

The 5-year old division was won by Andreas Homuth aboard Royal Gala. Scoring 8.7, Homuth outclassed all other competitors. His black mare Royal Gala is a Royal Diamond x Don Gregory x Lungau who was sold at the 2002 Vechta Spring Elite auction for 52,000 euro. Homuth is an experienced Bucha rider. At the 1999 Bundeschampionate, he ranked fourth with the Hanoverian mare Carmina Burana, a,d last year he competed Gershwin in Warendorf. Once again, he seems to have an excellent horse for Warendorf.

Finishing second in the 5-year old class was Grand Prix rider Jonny Hilberath on his youngster De Nada (De Niro x Ritual). This duo scored 8.5.

Winning the 6-year old Qualifier (Group one) was PSI's brand new team rider Francoise Cantamessa on Walk on Top, a horse she rides for a client and who is one of Meggle's Werther's Wels' first descendants. The Swiss born Cantamessa scored an impressive 8.7 with Walk on Top and directly qualified for the BuCha Finals in Warendorf. Holga Finken and Don Rubin (Donnerschwee x Rubinstein) placed second with an 8.4.

In the Second Group of 6-year olds, PSI's Dr. Ulf Möller steered Ideal to victory with an 8.5 score. Ideal is by Iberio x Fierant xx and is owned by P.S.I. "He's very a nice horse, very easy to ride. Ulli Kasselmann is training him and he's already doing tempi's every 3 and 4 strides," Dr. Möller explained. Ideal will most likely be part of the 2004 P.S.I. Auction collection.

In second position were Wiebke Borchers with Sandrina, a Sandro Hit x Ganymed I mare, and Michael Klimke on Bugatti Hilltop. Both rode 8.3. A week before the Bremen show, Bugatti Hilltop (by Bergamon x Rubinstein) already earned an 8.8 in a warm-up competition for the Bundeschampionate qualifier. By scoring 8.8 there and 8.3 in Bremen, Klimke is already in a comforatble position to qualify the American owned Bugatti Hilltop for the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden, Germany.

Dr. Ulf Möller also qualified the 6-year old Love Spirit with an 8.0 score. Love Spirit is a bay gelding by Laudatio x Domino, who was sold for 100,000 € to a dressage enthusiast from the Hannover area at the 2001 PSI auction. Love Spirit is still in training with P.S.I.

Another former PSI auction horse that qualified for the Bundeschampionate is the bay gelding Weissager (Welt Hit I x Onyx), who sold to Poland for 100,000 euro at the 2003 P.S.I. Auction. Hansen scored 8.1 aboard Weissager and, along with her other 5-year old ride Who's Who (Welt Hit I x Waldsee), she has qualified two horses for the BuCha at this very first selection trial.

Five or six-year old dressage horse have to score at least 8.0 or higher to qualify for the Bundeschampionate (i.e. German Young Horse Championships), which will be held from 1st to 5th September 2004 in Warendorf, Germany.
