The 42-year old Danish Grade I disabled rider Brita Falkenstern Andersen, has died after falling of her horse Sunday morning, August 24, 2003. Andersen, who fell because her horse spooked
, was training for the World Championships for Disabled Riders, which will be held September 2 - 7, 2003, at Het Zilveren Spoor in Moorsele, Belgium. Initially, Brita had broken her leg and was transported to the hospital, but she died four hours later.
Brita Falkenstern Andersen was the idol of many disabled riders. She proved that, despite being disabled, dreams do come true. Brita won gold and silver at the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta and two silver medals at the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney.
At the Baunehøj Equestrian Centre, one minute of silence will be held for Brita at the National Danish Championships for Disabled Riders on Sunday.
