"Everybody has to win it at least once", Nicky Barrett told the press after her victory in the 2002 British Dressage Championships. Nicky Barrett has never made a big impression on the European scene with her Giorgio S, but in England the combination is hot.

At the 2002 British Dressage Championships in Warwickshire, England, Barrett scored 67.56% in the Grand Prix and 73.37% in the kur to music, making her overall score the highest of the field of competitors for the title.

In second place was the fairly new combination Nicola McGivern with Active Walero. With 67.40% and 72.29% she claimed silver and just missed gold. Expected to claim the title was the WEG combination Emile Faurie and Insterburg, but they eventually settled for bronze. The hot Insterburg scored 66.84% and 71.36%.

In the Prix St Georges tour, Carl Hester and his undefeatable Escapado took home the trophy. Scoring 72%, Hester comfortably highlighted his already successful 2002 show season with this national title.
