Dutch Dressage Chef d'Equipe Jurgen Koschel announced his team for the 2001 European Dressage Championships in Verden the first week of August.

The Dutch team consists in Anky van Grunsven with her current number one Grand Prix horse Gestion Idool (KWPN, by Maykel), Arjen Teeuwissen with Gestion Goliath (KWPN, by Zebulon), Gonnelien Rothenberger with Jonggor's Weijden (Hanoverian, by Western Star) and Ellen Bontje with Gestion Silvano N (Holsteiner, by Silvester). Sonja Gademann with the KWPN bred Olympic Jup (by Democraat) is the reserve combination

Arjen Teeuwissen's first appearance after the Olympic Games in Sydney were postponed until the CDI Arnhem. Goliath pulled a tendon in November and needed a long recovery period to get back into international show shape. At Champion Gelderland the bay gelding immediately impressed in his new freestyle (composed by Ali Schonberg) which scored 79%

Coby van Baalen was unable to ride the qualifiers with Olympic Ferro as the black stallion has been injured for more than half a year now.
