The Hanoverian stallion Blue Hors Cavan has been fully castrated after a second "hodenbruch" (inguinal hernia) injury. The dark bay stallion by Cavalier x Damnatz had to cancel its Olympic Games' participation September 2000 due to the same injury.
Cavan was then operated on, and one testical had to be removed. After several months of recovery, Cavan made his competition come-back at the CDI Stockholm, Sweden, under his steady rider Lars Petersen.
Blue Hors Stud in Randbol, Denmark, is sad to see its number one stallion castrated. Nevertheless, Cavan will continue his sport career under Lars Petersen. There is still some frozen semen available. According to Danish breeders the value of Cavan's semen and his offspring has gone up considerably due to the stallion's gelding.
