The American Trakehner Association and the North American Trakehner Association are pleased to announce their unification as of January 1, 2001. The memberships of both associations voted unanimously in the fall of 2000 to unify.

The new association will be called the American Trakehner Association, a unification of the NATA and the ATA. The combined offices will be housed at the ATA Main Office in Newark, OH.

Beginning in January 2001, all NATA stud book stallions and mares will be accepted into the studbooks of the ATA and subsequent offspring of both ATA and NATA stallions and mares will be registered with the combined association. As in both previous registries, purebreds and part-Trakehners are eligible for registration in the books of the unified association.

The new association will maintain the agreement with the German Trakehner Verband formed by the original ATA in 1978 and inspection of stallions and mares will continue as before in the US and Canada. Branding, in those states and provinces where allowed by law, will continue using the modified version of the German moose antler brand, which was used by the original ATA under license from the German Trakehner Verband.

In a joint statement issued by the presidents of the ATA and NATA, respectively Sam Eidt, DVM, and Ernie Shook, the goal for unification was stated, "We feel that the best interest of the Trakehner horse in North America is served by a unified organization. In combining our efforts we can continue to preserve, improve and promote the Trakehner breed, as well as compete in the open sport horse market."
